The International Driving License/Permit (IDL) is recognized worldwide and identifies its holder as a properly licensed resident of the United States. No drivers test is required, but you must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License (from a state or U.S. Territory) and be 18 years of age or older. The permit is valid for one year from the date of issue. The IDL cannot be used in the United States. IDL Permits are typically only valid if presented with the original applicable local, state, or national license. The IDL may be used by persons with U.S. Driver's Licenses in the following countries. Before traveling, check with the embassy of the country you are visiting or planning to drive in to see if there are additional requirements to be able to drive.
